Itinerary

Adelaide to Naracoorte (Lunch / Dinner)

We depart Adelaide at 8:00 AM, traveling along the South Eastern Freeway towards Tailem Bend, a charming town near the mouth of the Murray River.

Our first stop is at Coonalpyn, where we admire the striking grain silos—the first in South Australia to feature large-scale artwork, completed in March 2017. This vibrant masterpiece dominates the township, offering a unique photo opportunity.

Continuing through the agricultural heart of the region, we pass through Keith before arriving at the Wonambi Fossil Centre in the Naracoorte Caves National Park. Here, we step back over 200,000 years to explore the prehistoric landscape of Naracoorte. A guided tour of the stunning Alexandra Cave immerses us in this World Heritage-listed wonder. Lunch is enjoyed amid the serene setting of the caves.

Later, we visit the Sheep’s Back Museum, delving into the region’s rich wool industry history, followed by a brief tour of the town. In the evening, we check into our accommodation for a comfortable overnight stay.

Naracoorte to Mt Gambier (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

After breakfast, we visit the Mini Jumbuk Factory, renowned for over 45 years of crafting luxurious Australian wool bedding products.

Next, we travel to the charming historic town of Penola, established in the 1850s. Our visit includes the Mary MacKillop Interpretive Centre, which celebrates the life and legacy of Australia’s first saint and co-founder of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Adjacent to the centre, we stroll through Petticoat Lane, a fascinating heritage precinct showcasing 19th-century pioneer living.

After lunch, we explore a renowned winery in the Coonawarra region, famous for its exceptional wines, before continuing to Mount Gambier. Here, we marvel at the iconic Blue Lake and have time to explore this vibrant city.

In the evening, we embark on a delightful BBQ Dinner Sunset Cruise along the Glenelg River, winding through the picturesque Lower Glenelg National Park before flowing into the Southern Ocean. We return to our hotel for a restful night.

Mt Gambier to Robe (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

After breakfast, we are joined by a local guide for a visit to the Umpherston Sinkhole, a natural wonder transformed into a stunning sunken garden with terraced landscaping, palm trees, and hanging plants.

We then head into town to explore the National Trust Old Courthouse, built in 1865. This historic limestone building features original courtroom furnishings, judge’s chambers, and intriguing displays of historical events.

Following lunch, we travel to Millicent to visit its impressive museum, home to a Shipwreck Room, large machinery collection, period costumes, and one of Australia’s finest displays of horse-drawn vehicles.

Our journey continues to Beachport, a coastal gem boasting rugged scenery and breathtaking views. We visit the Old Woodgrain Store before arriving at the enchanting seaside town of Robe. Framed by aquamarine waters and lined with heritage cottages, Robe radiates charm and character.

Robe to Adelaide (Breakfast / Lunch)

This morning, we visit Kingston, nestled on the picturesque waters of Lacepede Bay. Here, we meet the iconic Larry the Lobster, an impressive 15-meter-tall sculpture celebrating the town’s seafood heritage.

After some free time, we head towards The Coorong, a stunning 180 km stretch of coastal wetlands known for its rich biodiversity, including breeding pelicans and over 230 species of migratory birds.

Our next stop is Meningie, a tranquil lakeside town originally established as a paddle-steamer staging post. We enjoy a delicious regional lunch at the Meningie Hotel.

In the afternoon, we cross the Murray River by ferry at Wellington and journey to Langhorne Creek and Strathalbyn, a picturesque town on the Angas River known for its thriving antique shops and collectibles. After some time to explore, we board our bus for the final leg of this unforgettable journey, returning home with wonderful memories.
